We weren't kidding when we said we we're growing fast... Since our last post we've welcomed two more new additions to team Sparkol! 🎉
We're super proud of the talented people who make up our diverse team we thought it was only right you get to know them a bit better. In this blog we chat to new-starters Bella and Glenn about their proudest moments, biggest lessons learned and most importantly, what they'd take to a desert island... 🏝
Meet Bella Bernard
Bella is the newest member of the Sparkol Studio team. Her animation skills and creative vision will soon be bringing our clients' ideas to life. We can't wait to see what you'll create!
We asked these six questions to find out what makes Bella tick 👇
Q1: What drew you to Sparkol and what are you most excited to work on?
A1: What initially drew me to Sparkol was the emphasis on storytelling used in a way to teach people. I’m most excited to make our clients' briefs come to life ✨
Q2: What are you most proud of (professionally or personally)?
A2: I’m most proud of my degree and graduate films. Other than professional accolades, I’m most proud of how fast my houseplants are growing!
Q3: What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever been given?
A3: I’ve not been given any specific advice per se but the day someone told me I could actually make money from art was pretty significant. Before that point I was going to become a vet.
Q4: If you could only take 5 things to a desert island what would they be?
A4:
- My boyfriend (he was a boy scout)
- A swimsuit
- Snacks
- A rubber dinghy
- A really good book
Q5: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
A5: The Rock. Not because he looks like me but I think it would make it a fun watch.
Q6: If you could live anywhere in the world where would you go?
A6: Anywhere with a good animation culture and a beach (so probably America!) 🇺🇸
Meet Glenn Flanagan
We've also welcomed Glenn back to our development team! It's awesome to have Glenn back at Sparkol to help us continually improve and develop our video tools like Scribely.
We caught up with Glenn to dive a little deeper 👇
Q1: What drew you to Sparkol and what are you most excited to work on?
A1: Having worked with Sparkol as a contractor in the past I just knew how good the team was and how interesting a project Scribely is. Getting to work on Scribely again was a massive buzz for me as it meant I could fix the bugs I’d caused years ago when I originally worked on it! Plus add a load of new features of course.
Q2: What are you most proud of (personally or professionally)?
A2: I recently took part in the Bournemouth Pier-to-Pier charity swim event where I raised over £2000 for British Heart Foundation and Positive About Down Syndrome charities. The weather was atrocious and I was completely un-prepared - but I powered through - and even though at one point I actually thought I was going to die…I made it. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever undertaken and I’m proud to have raised the money for two such great charities.
Q3: What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever been given?
A3: Never work for free. Even when it’s for friends or family - put a price on it. That way the work you do is taken seriously and given value and stops people taking advantage.
Q4: If you could only take 5 things to a desert island what would they be?
A4: Hmm, thinking practically:
Nintendo Switch
Solar charging station
Something to do with food, shelter, blah blah blah - first two items will do 😂
Q5: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
A5: I don’t see it myself but some people tell me I look like MATT DAMON! Or maybe I’m LIKE Matt Damon in Team America? I’ll let you decide that.
Q6: If you could live anywhere in the world where would you go?
A6: It’d have to be somewhere warm, but not too hot, near a beach - I would say somewhere in the Mediterranean - probably Monaco…is there a price limit on this question? 💸
